The Journey of the Dollar

For Acumen - a global nonprofit finding solutions to fight poverty - we put together a short, upbeat animated video that shows what happens when someone decides to donate to their cause. On top of the main animation, we also created six cut-down versions in different aspect ratios for the client’s social media channels.

Idea

We made a video that follows the journey of a single donated dollar, showing how individual contributions are combined and invested into the right people and communities working on long-term solutions to poverty. This approach helps spread the impact - children go to school, mothers receive care, farmers earn stable income. Communities thrive.

Backgrounds

The client wanted the animation to feel warm, optimistic and forward-looking while highlighting that a single dollar becomes the first step on a board-game-like path toward a thriving community.

With this description in mind we brought subtle boardgame elements into the design with a warm color palette and cartoony yet respectful characters that represent different nationalities and races, while faithfully portraying the locations mentioned in the video.

Animation

For this project, we brought together all of our animation specialties - motion design, frame by frame animation and cut-out animation created in MOHO. Everything was combined in After Effects, where we added subtle effects and textures, making sure the rhythm and overall feel matched exactly what the client envisioned for this video.
