Food Talks

AUTHOR: Rafał CATEGORY: Mascot Design & Animation

The nonprofit organization Acumen approached us with a project for their Food Talks campaign at NYC Climate Week.

We created six animated videos featuring everyday foods as characters which are at risk of disappearing if we fail to act on climate change. Each food item was paired with a bold, memorable tagline to drive the message home.

Cocoa

"Without me, try eating your feelings away with raisins."

Coffee

"Try starting your morning
without me."

Maize

"Movie night?
Not without me."

Mango

"Without me, your smoothie is just vibes and ice."

Tomato

"Ever tried a BLT
without the T? Sad."

Lettuce

"Try being an iceberg
lettuce in this heat."

Character Design

We received climate-related information and taglines for each food item and were tasked with designing six distinct characters and scenarios. The illustrations needed to be eye-catching while still respecting the seriousness of the topic.

After several sketches and feedback rounds, we refined the direction and developed the final illustrations.

Making Of

After completing the designs, we animated them using cel animation to achieve fluid movement and a handcrafted feel that suited the characters.

Below, you can see the process from rough drafts to refined animation
and the final result.
