Learning Mandarin isn’t easy, it’s full of ups and downs that can quickly drain your motivation. That’s why Confederation Studio tasked us with creating Hui, a wise panda who brings balance and encouragement to the journey. Hui adds personality to the brand, enhances the experience and supports learners in different situations. With that in mind we made twelve animations in Lottie format for our client.

Looking for the Panda
At the beginning of the project, we only had guidelines describing the emotions our panda should convey. It needed to be whimsical yet professional and witty, as well as helpful, humble, relaxed, understanding and encouraging. We sketched many ideas in search of the perfect panda.
Making Of
To bring our panda to life, we followed a simple scheme where each stage had to be approved by the client. We started with sketches, followed by vector illustration, and lastly it was animated using Adobe Animate for cel animation or MOHO for cut out animation.
